Latin Name : Emblica officinalis
Hindi Name : Amlaki Or Amala
Amla Fruit or Emblic Fruit (Amalaki) is one of the most useful Ayurvedic medicines, and a strong rejuvenative.
Parts Used : Root Bark, Bark, Leaves and Fruits.
Action: Refrigerant, carminative, stomachic, laxative, diuretic. 
Uses: Amla is the richest known sourse of highly assimilable form of vitamin C. One of the Greatest anti-oxidants available. Amla improves immune system. Amla is good for improving vision, makes skin and hair better. Amla ingredients act to condition and nourish the hair. Improves digestion and works as a mild laxative.  
Amla has 30 times more vitamin C than orange and helps in strengthening the immune system and expediting the healing process. Regular intake of amla strengthens digestion, absorption and assimilation of food and balances stomach acids.
Amla is used for a wide variety of conditions involving the digestive tract and its organs. It is the prime general herb for the eyes, and is said to treat premature gray hair. Amla is the basis for the famous Ayurvedic rejuvenative jam, chyavanprash, and the widely used combination herbal remedy, triphala.
Fresh fruit is refrigerant, diuretic and laxative.  Green fruit is exceedingly acid.  Fruit is also carminative and stomachic.  Dried fruit is sour and astringent.  Flowers are cooling and aperient.  Bark is astringent.  The herb is also aphrodisiac, hemostatic, nutritive tonic, rejuvenative (for Pitta).  Amla increases red blood cell count.  It is one of the highest natural source of Vitamin C (3,000 mg per fruit).
Amla fruit paste is a major ingredient of Chavyanprash, a popular Ayurvedic tonic.  Amla is known as amritphala in Sanskrit, which literally means "the fruit of heaven" or "nectar fruit."  It is so called because it is rich in many desirable properties.
It was described in a 7th century Ayurvedic medical text.  According to several scholars, the sage Chyawan is reputed to have restored his vitality with this fruit.
It is a deciduous tree about 10-18 meters tall found and cultivated throughout India.  It can grow on plains and slopes upto a height of 200 meters above the sea level.
